AIR2O cooling system and HVAC technology are being used in stadiums for the 2022 World Cup being held in Qatar. AIR2O’s flagship hybrid HVAC units were initially installed in the fan zone to provide an energy efficient 100% fresh air cooling solution to maintain comfortable temperatures and humidities. Interesting Engineering media listed the cooling effort as one of the top 5 technologies implemented at the event.

“AIR2O is extremely proud to be able to innovate and provide HVAC solutions currently being used during the World Cup in Qatar. Providing a successful outdoor cooling solution made the tournament a reality for fans and players whilst improving their experience,” said Mike Sullivan, CEO, and co-founder.

To cool the Fan Zone, AIR2O provided 150 No. Hybrid cooling units, each unit delivered 50 tons of cooling at a rate of 10,000 cubic feet per minute (cfm). At this rate, the units combat the outside temperatures, which reach well over 115 degrees F in its summer months and cool the areas to around 70-75 degrees F. This system effectively cools the outdoor area and saves 47% more energy compared to conventional air conditioning units.

In addition, air2o was proud to develop exclusively a custom-designed jet nozzle diffuser, 5000 units were embedded throughout that stadium to distribute the conditioned air to the pitch. Also, air2o utilizing techniques such as CFD analysis and 3D printing provided around 25,000 under-seat diffusers to ensure spectators are kept in a bubble of conditioned air.
